bernie wrightson (part 2)...

More Berni Wrightson reprints today. These were published as "Master of the Macabre" by Pacific Comics in 1983 and 1984. A fifth issue was published by Eclipse Comics in 1984. Most of these stories were originally published by Warren Comics in "Creepy" and "Eerie" in the 1970s. Many of them were written by Wrightson himself, although Bruce Jones wrote "Jenifer" and "the Laughing Man." "Jenifer" was adapted by Dario Argento for the "Masters of Horror" tv series, I think I put up some images from the original printing during last year's Halloween countdown. It's a good story. "The Muck Monster" is a great take on the Frankenstein mythos, something Wrightson would continue to explore. "The Black Cat" is of course an Edgar Allen Poe adaptation, and "Cool Air" comes from HP Lovecraft. Bruce Jones , who currently writes "Checkmate," one of my favorite comics, for DC, did alot of horror and sci-fi stuff at Pacific during the 1980s, including the EC Comics tribute book "Twisted Tales," which I'll share some of after one or two more posts of Wrightson's work...

Up next, Wrightson and Len Wein's classic "Swamp Thing," and eventually some film reviews when my brain starts working again, which could be never...
