mavel horror mags

For today's comics selection, some Marvel horror mags from the 1970s and 1980s. Under their "Curtis" imprint, Marvel published magazine-sized, black & white comics for many years. Their magazine horror titles were generally better, in my opinion, than their comic-sized horror offerings. A lot of talented people worked on Marvel's mags. In addition to some of the artists highlighted below, writers on these issues include Steve Gerber, Doug Meonch, Roy Thomas, Marv Wolfman, J.M. DeMatteis, Denny O' Neil, Mark Gruenwald, Tom DeFalco, Bruce Jones and many others of note....

Tom Sutton...

Mike Kaluta...

Gene Colan...

Walt Simonson...

One of my favorite artists, Bill Sienkiewicz (working in a much more conventional style than he would soon develop)...

Some very disturbing work by Stephen R. Bissette...

More Stephen Bissette...

"Howard the Duck" is one of my favorite Marvel characters, and the mag was kinda cool, but it was done without character creator Steve Gerber, and lacked his particularly creative touch...

Tomorrow- Skywald horror comics. Check back later for the daily review, "5ive Girls"...
