dc's house of secrets

Today's comic is "The House of Secrets," DC's companion publication to yesterday's "House of Mystery." It ran from the mid-1950s until the later-1970s. This is the series in which the enduring character Swamp Thing was introduced (in 1971). While "House of Mystery" was hosted by Cain (and his pet gargoyle Gregory, who I forgot to mention in yesterday's post), "House of Secrets" was hosted by his brother Abel, who had a serious stutter and was often dominated by Cain. Also like "House of Mystery," "House of Secrets" sometimes featured Sergio Aragones gag panels, a couple of which I've posted below. The first cover, by the way, is by the great Neal Adams. Late in the series' run, the format switched from an anthology to single-story issues focusing on one supernaturally-themed character, the Patchwork Man (from the "Swamp Thing" series). This must not have done much of anything for sales, since a couple of issues later, they switched back to an anthology...

And a very cool ad for Aurora models...
